PUBLIC NOTICE

Storage of Vehicles, Vessels and Machinery

The Shire of Gnowangerup is reminding property owners and occupiers of their responsibilities under Section 3.6 of the Shire of Gnowangerup Animals, Environment and Nuisance Local Law 2016.

The Local Law includes requirements relating to the storage of vehicles, vessels, machinery and associated parts on private property, particularly where these items are in a state of disrepair and visible from public areas or neighbouring properties.

What does the Local Law require?

Under Section 3.6, an owner or occupier of a property must not:

  • store, or allow to remain in public view, more than one vehicle, vessel or piece of machinery in a state of disrepair, whether licensed or unlicensed;
  • allow a vehicle, vessel or piece of machinery in a state of disrepair to remain in public view for more than one month;
  • store vehicle, vessel or machinery parts, including tyres, in public view;
  • wreck, dismantle or break up vehicles, vessels or machinery unless this occurs inside a building or behind appropriate screening of at least 1.8 metres in height; or
  • wreck, dismantle or break up a vehicle, vessel or machinery in a way that causes a nuisance.

Compliance within the Shire

The Shire will be increasing its focus on compliance with these requirements and encourages residents to take the opportunity to check their properties.

If you have an old, broken-down or disused vehicle, machinery, parts or tyres visible from the street or neighbouring properties, please consider removing, relocating or appropriately screening these items.

Where properties are identified as potentially not complying with the Local Law, the Shire may issue a warning or notice requesting that the matter be addressed. Further action may be taken where required in accordance with the Local Law.

The aim is to maintain the amenity and appearance of towns and neighbourhoods across the Shire and provide property owners with an opportunity to address concerns before further compliance action is considered.
