PUBLIC NOTICE
HAZARD REDUCTION ACTIVITIES – ONGERUP TOWNSITE
Residents and visitors of Ongerup are advised that staff from Shire of Gnowangerup and Local Fire Brigade will be conducting hazard reduction burns in the vicinity of Ongerup Townsite and refuse site.
PURPOSE: Burning of piled debris to reduce the risk of bushfire impacting Yongergnow infrastructure and reduce the potential for a bushfire impacting residences and the townsite.
Prescribed burning will be undertaken with consideration of winds to minimise smoke from entering the Ongerup townsite.
DATE: Beginning Wednesday, 22nd July for a period of 1 week.
LOCATION: Areas in the vicinity of the Ongerup town site and Ongerup refuse site indicated on maps below.


WHAT TO DO DURING AND AFTER HAZARD REDUCTION ACTIVITIES:
- Traffic speed may apply with traffic management signs installed on day of the burns.
- Road closures may be in place on the day of burning activities for the safety of firefighters operating within the area.
- Motorists are asked to have their headlights on when driving through the area and drive to the conditions as the smoke hazard will remain for a number of days after the burn is completed.
- Abide by all directions of firefighters/Emergency Services personnel on scene.
- Smoke may affect visibility and air quality in and around Ongerup on the day itself and the days following. Residents and visitors with any respiratory conditions are reminded to have their medication close by or on them as a precaution.
- Firefighters will be conducting patrols of the treatment areas in the days following each prescribed burn.
