PUBLIC NOTICE
HAZARD REDUCTION ACTIVITIES – GNOWANGERUP REFUSE SITE
Residents and visitors of Gnowangerup are advised that staff from Shire of Gnowangerup will be conducting Hazard Reduction Burns in the vicinity of Gnowangerup refuse site. Gnowangerup refuse site will close Wednesday afternoon at 3pm (8 July) while the burning is active and reopen Thursday 9 July.
PURPOSE: Burning of piled debris to reduce the risk of bushfire impacting general waste site and reduce the potential for a bushfire impacting residences and the townsite.
Prescribed burning will be undertaken with consideration of winds to minimise smoke from entering the Gnowangerup townsite.
DATE: Beginning Wednesday, 8 July for a period of 1 week.
LOCATION: Areas in the vicinity of the Gnowangerup Refuse site.

WHAT TO DO DURING AND AFTER HAZARD REDUCTION ACTIVITIES:
- Please avoid burn area while burning operation occurring, and in the days after for your own safety.
- Green waste debris can still be received within designated site identified with cones.
- Traffic speed may apply with traffic management signs installed on day of the burns.
- Road closures may be in place on the day of burning activities for the safety of firefighters operating within the area.
- Motorists are asked to have their headlights on when driving through the area and drive to the conditions as the smoke hazard will remain for a number of days after the burn is completed.
- Abide by all directions of firefighters/Emergency Services personnel on scene.
- Smoke may affect visibility and air quality in and around Gnowangerup on the day itself and the days following. Residents and visitors with any respiratory conditions are reminded to have their medication close by or on them as a precaution.
- Firefighters will be conducting patrols of the treatment areas in the days following each prescribed burn.
