PUBLIC NOTICE

HAZARD REDUCTION ACTIVITIES – BORDEN REFUSE SITE

Residents and visitors of Borden are advised that staff and contractors from Shire of Gnowangerup will be conducting hazard reduction burns in the vicinity of Borden refuse site.

 

PURPOSE:    Burning of piled debris to reduce the risk of bushfire impacting general waste site and reduce the potential for a bushfire impacting residences and the townsite. Prescribed burning will be undertaken with consideration of winds to minimise smoke from entering the Borden townsite.

DATE:            Beginning Monday 29 June for a period of 1 week.

LOCATION:   Areas in the vicinity of the Borden Refuse site.

 

WHAT TO DO DURING AND AFTER HAZARD REDUCTION ACTIVITIES:

  • Traffic speed may apply with traffic management signs installed on day of the burns.
  • Road closures may be in place on the day of burning activities for the safety of firefighters operating within the area.
  • Motorists are asked to have their headlights on when driving through the area and drive to the conditions as the smoke hazard will remain for a number of days after the burn is completed.
  • Abide by all directions of firefighters/emergency services personnel on scene.
  • Smoke may affect visibility and air quality in and around Borden on the day itself and the days following. Residents and visitors with any respiratory conditions are reminded to have their medication close by or on them as a precaution.
  • Firefighters will be conducting patrols of the treatment areas in the days following each prescribed burn.
