COMMENCEMENT OF UNRESTRICTIVE BURNING TIME

Pursuant to Section 18 of the Bushfires Act 1954, the Shire of Gnowangerup would like to advise Landowner/Occupiers that Unrestrictive Burning Time (Open Burning) will commence as of Friday 23 April 2021.

Landowner/Occupiers are to proceed with caution when burning and to be mindful of the following
conditions;
• Maintain 3 metre Bare Earth Fire Break around burn area.
• Have appropriate firefighting resources near-by.
• Check weather conditions (current and incoming) prior to ignition.
• Nuisance smoke affecting neighbours or impacting road networks.
• If burning heaps, please maintain watch of heaps until fully extinguished.
• Pursuant to Section 46 Bush Fires Act; Fire Control Officers can suspend/postpone burning at any time, should unfavourable weather conditions pass through the district or if they deem the fire to be unsafe.

The Shire of Gnowangerup will consider pursuing compensation of cost against the Landowner/Occupier (permissible under the Bush Fires Act) should any fires escape due to neglect.
