PART III PREVENTION OF BUSH FIRES

SECTION 18 – Conclusion Of Restricted Burning Time

Pursuant to Section 18 Bush Fires Act 1954 the Shire of Gnowangerup advises Restricted Burning Time will conclude on Sunday, May 15th 2022.

The Shire's Chief Bush Fire Control Officer, Mr Darren Baum has exercised his powers under section 18(5)(a)(i) Bush Fires Act 1954 to shorten the prescribed restricted season in the Shire of Gnowangerup.

Landowner/occupiers are to proceed with caution when burning and to be mindful of the following conditions:

  • Maintain 3 metre Bare Earth Fire Break around burn area.
  • Have appropriate firefighting resources near-by.
  • Check weather conditions (current and incoming) prior to ignition.
  • Nuisance smoke affecting neighbours or impacting road networks.
  • If burning heaps, please maintain watch of heaps until fully extinguished.
  • Pursuant to Section 46 Bush Fires Act 1954; Fire Control Officers can suspend/postpone burning at any time, should unfavourable weather conditions pass through the district or if they deem the fire to be unsafe.

The Shire of Gnowangerup will consider pursuing compensation of cost against the Landowner/occupier (permissible under section 18(11) Bush Fires Act 1954) should any fires escape due to neglect.
