Ongerup Refuse Site – New Opening Hours and Restrictions
The Ongerup Refuse Site was reopened on the 25 October 2025 with public notices for the community advising on what can be disposed at the tip and where.
Disappointingly, there has been ongoing dumping of illegal rubbish into the main household rubbish cell which present a high risk to the public and volunteer firefighters in the event of a fire.
To manage this high risk, further restrictions will be put in place commencing Tuesday 11 November 2025. Existing tip swipe cards will be disabled and the tip will be manned and opened for 2 days a week for a total of 4 hours as follows:
Tuesday – Opened from 1 pm to 3pm
Friday – Opened from 8 am to 10am
The site will be manned and as ‘conditions of entry’ vehicle and waste details will be collected, and you will be advised on separation of waste and locate for it to be disposed.
These measures will be in place until alternative controls can be put in place including upgraded CCTV and application of penalties.
The current restrictions that the public need to adhere to and will be enforced include:
- Chemical shuttles (IBCs) are prohibited. They must be returned to the supplier.
- All steel needs to be separated from general waste and placed in the scrap metal collection area.
- Tyres are not accepted at any of the Shire refuse sites and must be taken to an authorized tyre dealer for recycling.
- Green waste and building rubble also have dedicated areas for disposal and are not to be placed in the general household waste trench.
Listed below are items that are currently not accepted at the Shire refuse sites. If you require additional information or clarification, please contain the Shire 9827 1007 or use the QR code near the front gate swipe card scanner.
Commencing immediately, the Shire will issue penalties for illegal dumping.
