Shire of Gnowangerup Local Laws Review

The Shire of Gnowangerup is undertaking a review of the following local laws in accordance with section 3.16 of the Local Government Act 1995:
Purpose: To regulate the care, control and management of all property of the local government except thoroughfares.
Purpose: To make provisions about the impounding of dogs, to control the number of dogs that can be kept on premises and the manner of keeping those dogs and to prescribe areas in which dogs are prohibited and dog exercise areas.
Purpose: To provide for the regulation, control and management of animals and the prevention of environmental damage and nuisances within the district.
Purpose: To provide a statutory means to effectively control issues that could adversely impact on the health and wellbeing of the community.
Copies of these local laws are available on the Shire’s Website and from the Shire of Gnowangerup office.
The Shire is required to undertake community consultation as part of the local laws review. This is to gauge public opinion on the contents and ongoing suitability of the local laws and help identify whether any of these require amendment or repeal.
The Shire will consider all submissions received and prepare a report for Council on the outcomes of the consultation. These outcomes, together with recommendations from Shire staff, will be used to determine whether any changes to the local laws are required. Should any changes be required, the Shire will commence a separate local law process that will involve further community consultation.
