Shire Cemeteries

That was her first and only mistake over the life of the project.

Twelve months later she has produced an amazing electronic record, available to the public, of all the cemetery information stored at the Shire office from 1918 onwards.

This process saw Sharon liaise with Funeral Directors, other local governments, and the State Cemetery Records Board, as well as physically walking every row of the cemetery, copying inscriptions from headstones to match against incomplete written records.

We now have a very comprehensive record, accessible to all community members, for the Gnowangerup and Ongerup cemeteries.

Sharon, together with the very valuable assistance of Terry Gee, is now placing signage to identify all the different sections at the Gnowangerup cemetery. This includes a large overall map to guide everyone who may have a rough idea where loved ones have been placed.

This is another large phase of the project and, weather permitting, will hopefully be completed very soon.

The Shire appreciates the dedication and hard work Sharon has put into achieving these outcomes for our community.
