Knowing Your Risk - Bushfire Safety Campaign

Published on Thursday, 10 November 2022 at 2:40:40 PM

As the 2022-23 bushfire season approaches, DFES is urging Western Australians to make sure they are prepared in the event of a bushfire emergency.

DFES will be launching its annual ‘How Fireproof Is Your Plan?’ (HFIYP) campaign on Sunday 13 November.

The campaign is designed to help the community understand their bushfire risk and the consequences of not having a bushfire plan.

Inspiring the community into action is at the heart of the campaign, which directs them to visit the My Bushfire Plan website – www.mybushfireplan.wa.gov.au or download the My Bushfire Plan app. Here they receive step-by-step support and instructions to create a bushfire plan that can be accessed at any time.

Printed copies of the Bushfire Preparation Toolkit are available for people who prefer to complete a written bushfire plan, as well as the Be Safe and Leave Early Plan designed for people with higher needs. They can be ordered at publications.dfes.wa.gov.au

The campaign is both multi-faceted and targeted, consisting of television, cinema and radio commercials, advertising at train stations, on buses and roadside billboards, as well as digital and social advertising.

Staff and volunteers are encouraged to use the campaign email signature and share the campaign materials with their friends, family and networks. These can be found on the bushfire campaign resources page on the DFES website.

The Campaign complements the preparation already underway in communities and the work of the Community Preparedness Directorate supporting Bushfire Ready Groups and BGUs to engage with their local communities.
