AWARE
The Gnowangerup Shire is AWARE
The Shire of Gnowangerup, through the AWARE Project and in conjunction with FESA, is working hard to ensure proficient preparedness in the face of emergencies that may occur in and around our Shire.
.
AWARE (All West Australians Reducing Emergencies) was developed by FESA (Fire and Emergency Services Authority) in combination with Local Governments.
The AWARE Project, adopted by the Shire of Gnowangerup, is about identifying risks, hazards and potential emergencies within the community; the aim of which is to formulate emergency risk management plans to reduce the impact of any emergency that may occur.
The Shire of Gnowangerup is currently carrying out Stage 1 of the AWARE project. Involving primary consultation with the community and stakeholders. Around 500 Surveys were randomly distributed throughout the community with 200 + surveys being returned. Presently the returned surveys are being collated and findings will be documented in a report due out in early February 2008. The report will be available for public viewing and will be presented to the Local Emergency Management Committee (LEMC). The LEMC will then choose the most prominent hazards that have come out of the report and the survey’s findings. The risks selected as priorities will then be analysed and evaluated by the AWARE Project Committee during stage 2.
The Shire of Gnowangerup would like to thank all residents and businesses that took part in the survey for taking the time to participate in this important and worthwhile project.
